Über das Buch
The world is a radically different place this spring of 2020. The coronavirus has swept around the globe with unprecedented speed and lethality. As we confront this pernicious threat, a new vocabulary dominates our conversations: social distancing: flattening the curve, contact tracing, herd immunity. The pandemic has led authorities to shut down virtually all non essential commerce and prohibit public gatherings in attempts to halt the transmission of the disease. Five essays in this volume reflect on these uncertain times. I also muse on the non-viral aspects of old age, and rant about how federal bailout monies—our tax dollars—should be used to force businesses to rethink their institutional structures to better accommodate customers after years of greed and abuse. Toward that end, I propose a new Bill of Rights. And on a topic that doesn't seem as important as it once did, I take issue with some aspects of the #MeToo movement which seems to have infected much of our culture.
