As a first time traveller to India, I was expecting beautiful scenery and exceptional food - I knew it was going to be hot and the cycling would be challenging. I had been told the people are friendly, drivers are crazy and poverty is endemic; all this I found to be true and in some cases even understated. What I was not prepared for however, was the level of national pride etched on the faces of the people we met along the way.
