Über das Buch
Mary Louisa and Carl Johan Carlson lived in southeastern Sweden. They had fourteen children, eight of whom survived to adulthood. Opportunities were limited, and so between 1881 and 1899, all six sons, one daughter, and the parents emigrated. Also the eldest daughter of the remaining daughter joined her uncles and grandparents in the United States. They settled in the Grand Crossing area on the south side of Chicago. Although one son moved farther afield, most remained closely connect in their new neighborhood. Through photos, documents, and text, this book provides a remarkable picture of the chain migration of the Carlsons and of the success of these new Swedish-Americans
