Über das Buch
When I started taking pictures on the street of New York in the early ‘90s, people often came up to me saying that they used to photograph in the city before but now they didn’t because New York had lost its edges.
In the ‘00s, people came up to me with similar complaints - they don’t take pictures of the city anymore because New York became tired and boring. Contrary to their beliefs, it was not New York but themselves who lost edges and became tired and boring.
The city keeps changing and so should you. You don’t like Times Square Disneyfied? Shoot it. You can’t stand East Village with Kmart and Starbucks? Shoot it. You hate to see downtown Brooklyn gentrified with overpriced brunch joints? Shoot it. You can’t shoot ‘then’ - the only moment you can photograph is ‘now.’
