‘Dear Cathedral Friends’
So began the letters that Vernon Cornish, Dean of St George’s Cathedral in Perth, wrote for his congregation each week. Vernon Cornish was a gifted writer, speaker and musician. His first love was the theatre, especially comedy, but this career path was thwarted. His calling to the priesthood, and later as a bishop, subsequently blossomed. His letters addressed current issues facing churches and society in the late 1970s. They capture the mood of the times and the wise and compassionate words of a fine pastor, leader and servant. Also included in this volume are the ‘Diary of a Churchman’ articles Vernon wrote for Church Scene, an Australian Anglican newspaper. Vernon died young in 1982 soon after being elected Bishop of Tasmania.
