The North Landing River is a dedicated Virginia Scenic River. It flows south through Virginia Beach, draining the wetlands that dominate the southern portions of the resort city, and opens to the Currituck Sound just over the border in North Carolina. The southern part of the city is rural and wet - a world of water and wetlands. Marsh, swamps and pocosins dominate the landscape along the North Landing River, surrounding the farms on the ancient sand ridges - not what comes to mind when most people think of Virginia Beach.

The North Landing is a true Environmental Wonderland. A wild, beautiful place seemingly untouched by humans. This book is an attempt to capture the beauty and wildness the river has to offer and my reaction to the many moods of this magical river.
