Über das Buch
Alone on the night of his fifty-ninth birthday, Leonard Self wanders his farmhouse in rural Maine and tries to make sense of the choices that led him there. Exhausted from a long day in his fields and dizzy with whiskey, he drifts in and out of the current of his past lives, saturated with the fear of death. As the night closes in, he is spooked by an event that he cannot explain and finds himself questioning the fabric of his reality and what waits on the other side of it.
Leonard carries this fear and uncertainty into the tumult of his dreams. Moving from one landscape to another, Leonard sees the strands of the evening before – honeybees, owls, a lone deer – manifest into guardians and shapeshifting tenants of a harrowing new world. Owlsong follows Leonard into this complex dreamland, taking him from the pastoral Northeast to the streets of Ciudad Juarez, and asks the question: are we alone in our dreaming, or do dreams connect us with one another through a shared subconscious?
