This set of photographs was an attempt to look at the city differently than I had in the past. Whereas my typical approach is to step back and show things in context - working with the buildings, people, light, and shadows to give an impression of the place - for this project I instead took a few steps forward and got up close and personal to find little scenes, abstract shapes, and vignettes reflected in storefront windows in the early mornings before things opened up. Most of these photos were taken between 2020 and 2022 during the lockdown periods of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the lack of street life, live music, and other things that I would normally photograph, I took this as an opportunity to try something new and focus on details, colours, and shapes and play with how those interact in the individual photos and as a group.
