Über das Buch
Governors Island has been a part of my life since childhood. My father has worked as a landscape architect on Governors Island since 2012. As a teenager, I had the privilege interning on the island for two summers. I worked under the Trust for Governors Island completing horticultural tasks such as weeding, helping lead volunteer groups, and tending to the plants on the island. I witnessed the island undergo remarkable transformations over time. This island became a second home and close to my heart. To commemorate my appreciate of this historically significant site, I created a book of photographs that feature my personal connection and unique access. The book unites my individual experiences as well as distinctive historical perspectives of Governors Island. I used my access to areas of the island that are off-limits to the public which include vacant historical buildings that are deteriorating, buildings that were damaged by hurricane Sandy, and closed off outdoor property of the island.
My book tells the story of Governors Island today, by unique access to inside and outside of the vacant buildings that once were homes and workplaces, the nature activities of the park life, construction sites, and the Governors Island ferry. It is my hope to inspire people to visit the island and create their own memories of Governors Island, as I have.
