For this book, photographs of Artforum magazine covers were distilled to "chessboard" resolution of eight by eight pixels.

In 1913 he caused a scandal with his Nude Descending a Staircase at the Armory Fair in New York. In 1932 he almost won the Paris Chess Championship. In 1963 he made it to the cover of Artforum.
