Über das Buch
'Twisted Sheets' is both literal and figurative. Living with Strangedolls could be described as a twisted experience. These are strange dolls that can haunt you during the day and keep you up at night, their presence filling the air with eerie stories. Some of them are like talismen or amulets, protecting the people they live with against danger or disease. Others often reveal a sense of survival or strength through their deeply individual narratives that each one expresses with a glance, a one-eyed stare or an undeniable sense of presence. Whatever character they have, they are always there when you come home, as if they've been waiting to tell their stories to you all over again. Though each time they tell them, they sound slightly different.
Beth Robinson's odd dolls are not something you will find in a toy store. They are hardly something you would buy for a child. They are misproportioned, strangely dressed, and they have a character uniquely their own. Each doll is entirely hand made using polymer clays, vintage fabrics, acrylic, paint, and sometimes real human hair or teeth. Each piece is one of a kind and created by hand.
Beth Robinson is a self-taught New England artist who has been making and selling hand made dolls since 2003. Although she found success with her oil paintings, her life was transformed when a friend introduced her to Japanese balljoint dolls. From that moment she realized that taking her characters off the canvas would be the best way to express herself. She is now a prolific artist with collectors across the globe. Her dolls have appeared in international galleries as well as the USA.
