Über das Buch
Sometimes it seems as though, in this age of instant information, the more information that we have at our fingertips, the less we actually know and that the further we advance as a species the more we become steeped in myth. These drawings are an attempt to address that alleged phenomenon with an emphasis on the themes listed in this show’s title; "Gold, God, Guns and Girls", categories which seem to me to somehow serve the basic needs of an entrenched and frightened populace. As hand drawn text drawings rather than simply information, they, in turn, are a declaration of art’s function as a static archival, architectural object, with the potential to illuminate the depth of our confusion without evaporating after the power has been turned off. Their content spans the gamut from the structured nonsense of my “Onomatopoeia/Acronym/Alliteration” series to the “spot on” hopes of the “Security Council Resolution 1325” drawings. I leave it up to the viewers to navigate this body of work to find their place between truth, fiction and the collective unconscious.

"Cole's highly graphic, deceptively "untutored" and loopy, folk art or cartoon style...brings a raw humor to the world's aches..."
