In 2003, after it became clear that nothing would stop the US march to war in Iraq, and the failure of political action turned to despair. Art Hazelwood turned to engraving to focus his bile at particular details of the corpulently hubristic government that the US had become.
These images are not by a witness to war and its horrors, but by a witness to home front jingoism, hypocritical cheerleaders, fantasy projections, and monumental stupidity.
Ten engravings, and five exhibition posters are reproduced. Introductory essay by art critic DeWitt Cheng.
