My design aesthetic is quite grungy, edgy, and urban. Some concepts that I often use when I’m designing are asymmetry, deconstruction, layering, and fabric manipulation. I work best with materials like leather and denim, because I enjoy manipulating them with various techniques, such as bleaching and surface erosion (tearing, sanding, etc.). Most of my inspiration comes from the streets: I like taking inspiration from ordinary, everyday or even unappealing objects or concepts and creating something beautiful and interesting. I also look a lot at the arts in general; anywhere from painting and sculpture, to photography and music. Overall I see fashion as a form of self-expression and communication: What we put on our bodies can communicate who we are as a person. Through fashion we can express our interests, values, our positions on social issues, etc. My goal is that through my designs I might express who I am and maybe make an positive impact on society.
