Über das Buch
This journal began on Monday November 29, 2010. Traditionally, most 365 projects begin at the first of the year, but I wanted to have it ready as a present for family and friends for the holidays. I've found this to be a very fun & rewarding series, sort of a visual thought stream or journal. A tiny snip-it from each day, wherever my life took me.
I set up a few rules for myself- I wanted to focus on a central object, sometimes it's about the lines or shapes, the colors or light. Maybe it's straight forward subject matter or it could be a bigger, more personal, context behind the image. Sometimes it's just a simple ol' snapshot in the moment, and on the rare occasion, it's everything all in one shot. All shots are horizontal, most have no Photoshopping done to them. Sometimes, I added shading, or focus, and maybe a tiny bit of cropping. Very minor stuff.
Everything was shot with my iPhone! As they say- "The best camera is the one you have with you." I did find a few people who disagreed- "Real cameras don't have ringtones..." This project wasn't about technical details like processing raw files, color profiles, high end resolutions. It's just about seeing the world in front of me and recording it day after day, after day, after day, repeat, wash, spin, etc, etc....
I hope you enjoy it. It took exactly one year to make. I had some good days, and some bad days. Some of my shots were pretty boring, I was literally "phoning it in". Ba-dum-bump! Other days were amazing and sometimes you see more from those days & less of the others... alas, I'm only human... but trust me, you want a little edit... no one has has perfect shots for 365 days straight. It's as simple as that. A very OCD project made as easy as possible. The main thing is that I was Thinking, Seeing, and Taking photos of something every single day with the thought of you and this book in mind. Enjoy!

Isbell Photo
Bend, OR
Stewart Isbell has been working as a freelance commercial photographer based in New York City since 1999. He began to shoot commercial assignments early on during his second year of attending The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He earned a BFA in Photography between 1997-2001. After a 20 year career in New York he moved cross-country to Bend, Oregon for a fresh start. His love has always been portraiture, but it's only a small portion of what has intrigued him about photography through the years. The many personal projects he is always working on, mostly about his travels or life, always keeps him busy in between assignments.
