Since 1980, art critic and travel writer Richard Nilsen has visited each of the lower 48 states uncounted times. This book is a collection of some of the photographs he has made for himself and for a weekly travel column he wrote for "The Arizona Republic," the daily newspaper in Phoenix, Ariz.

Richard Nilsen was art critic for The Arizona Republic in Phoenix, Ariz., for 25 years. He was also the classical music critic, the dance critic, the opera critic, the architecture critic and the backup movie critic. He has written for every section of the newspaper except the Business section. He has been a photographer for more than 40 years. Now retired, he lives in the Blue Ridge.
