Über das Buch
This publication consists of the Annual Reports prepared by Capt. Wm. Roy Maxwell, Director of the Ontario Provincial Air Service during his decade long tenure as the Founding Director of the service (1924-1934). They were filed as supplementary reports to the Annual Report of the Minister of Lands & Forests of Ontario and are to be found as Appendices to these reports archived as Microfiche copies in the Archives of Ontario.
In addition, the reports include the reports of aviation Activities carried out by the Ministry of Lands & Forests of Ontario between 1920 & 1923 which preceded the establishment by the Department of the Provincial Air Service by the Hon. James Lyons in 1924.
These additional reports include the historic report of E.T. Ireson, Land Surveyor, who was seconded to the Canadian Aero Film Company flying expedition to James Bay in August of 1920. This epic undertaking was flown by W. Roy Maxwell in a Curtiss HS-2L WWI flying boat G-CAAZ. It was the first flight of any aircraft into the Hudson Bay Lowlands. This pioneer aviation flight played a pivotal role in convincing the Ministers of Lands & Forests to employ the use of aircraft in timber surveys, forest fire identification and suppression. It culminated in the creation of the Provincial Air Service in 1924. (OPAS)
