It has been said that the image took refuge in books and in an iconoclastic age was only allowed place in so far as it illuminated the text. In the nomadic, oriental tradition certain sacred texts were written on cloths and these ideas were transmitted as long as these cloths were preserved and passed on to those who recognized their value.
