SUNSHINE WORKS
For over ten years, the University of Maine at Augusta has offered college programming at Maine State Prison, with funding of over $2 million from Doris Buffett and the Sunshine Lady Foundation. What began as a few students taking courses via tape delay, evolved into UMA faculty coming and going with regularity to teach classes face-to-face inside these walls. As a result, lives are changed, second chances are possible, and these men move on to become engaged and productive citizens, inside and out.
