Über das Buch
This book has been published to mark the bicentenary of the Cuban revolution:
On 1 January 1959 Fidel Castro's troops, headed up by Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, stormed Havana and liberated Cuba from Fulgencio Batista's dictatorial regime. The revolutionary coup was heralded as a populist victory at the time and a general sense of optimism for the future resonated throughout the country.
Fifty years on and, despite life expectancy and literacy rates being high, a sense of disillusionment with the communist regime appears to have set in amongst some Cubans. So, with Fidel's health gradually deteriorating, people are starting to question whether the longest-lasting revolution in the Latin American hemisphere will manage to survive into the next decade.
