This artistic compilation centers on mental health awareness. All quotes and images within are intentionally anonymous in order to respect the confidentiality of the participants.
According the the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), one in four adults, approximately 61.5 million Americans, experiences mental illness in a given year. Approximately 26 percent of homeless adults staying in shelters live with serious mental illness. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the U.S. (more common than homicide) and the third leading cause of death for ages 15 to 24 years. More than 90 percent of those who die by suicide had one or more mental disorders.
In reality, these images and quotes can be any one of us, people we know or a member of our own family. It's a common story. Thank you for viewing as an active participant in this mental health awareness project.
