Über das Buch
All photographs were taken within a 500metres stretch of The Basingstoke canal over the last three years and allow you to look into the details in a way that you almost forget what you are looking at. They create an illusion that occurs when the abstract rendered image transports the viewer and the literal subject itself is lost. The photographs evoke the passing of time.
Since living on the canal my work is driven by the theme of water, capturing the changing qualities of natural light in my immediate surroundings. Focusing on details, shapes, surfaces and texture, there is no horizon to orient the viewer.
The elements-water and sky, merge without perspective and intertwine into a rhythm of colour.
Freezing the motion of water or framing a small part of it, the image becomes an abstraction, something that exists only for the briefest of moment and is unrepeatable.
Attempting to capture these fleeting changes and freeze these transient moments always feels like embarking on a journey, like escaping into a thinking space and it seems to act as a catalyst for triggering thoughts. I discover patterns and implications that are not always present in the image.
Water resonates with memory, pictures like memories dissolve into one another, coming into focus and fading away, retreating into a different world.
