This book is one of three that were expanded from inclusions in my work 'Source to Sea', a book about my life and a record of fifty years at the waters edge, fishing, foraging and nature watching with a camera. It was, as was the 'fishing' book, more that the titles suggested.
I hope that I can pass on some of my most pleasurable and rewarding experience 'Out of Town' and to that end have included some unusual, little known and in some instances, forgotten country ways and crafts.
I am also attempting to teach the users of this 'manual' to not only forage in an appropriately modern way but to take a step back in time and go about one's business in the countryside in a considerate way, a way that has almost been lost.
