Über das Buch
When Tracy and I set out for our great Alaskan adventure, we knew that people back home would want regular updates with stories and pictures throughout the year. We also knew that we didn’t want to have to send tons of e-mails with pictures attached clogging up the inboxes of all our friends and family. Therefore, we decided to put pictures and updates on the web for all to view. We thought this was going to be a simple, small thing for just a few people, but over the course of the year, word of the website had spread. There was a link to it from the Nulato “My Family” website so not only did the entire village read everything we posted, but we ended up getting e-mails from far away relatives of Nulato residents. We heard from people we knew in Missouri who had spent time in Alaska and even got wind that the Callaway Bank President had been caught reading it a few times! Late in the year, we received an e-mail from a teacher hired for the next school year who had read our site while researching the village and school district. I didn’t have the heart to tell him just how watered down everything on the website really was!
In the end, we received over 1200 hits on the website so considering we barely even know a fraction of that many people, we were both quite impressed. What is included in this book is the entire website from beginning to end. Some corrections have been made to spelling and grammar, pictures have been resized, and text has been reformatted to fit the page a little better, but otherwise this is exactly what we posted as the year went on.
What remains is a quick chronicle of the good, the bad, and the funny from our year in Alaska.
