The College of DAAP has undertaken the commitment to find a viable solution to a problem that has proven to be an ongoing issue for Cincinnati Public School students. Within the CPS system, 28,000 children ride the bus daily, but not all of these students have adequate shelters to wait in to be picked up. The mission is to locate stops where shelters can be placed, to protect school students from the elements, crime, and other issues they may face while waiting for the bus. Additionally, a large number of CPS students do not have the resources to keep themselves well-dressed for the cold winter months.
This project involves, at different stages, the College of DAAP in its entirety: the School of Planning, the School of Design, the School of Architecture and Interior Design, and the School of Art. With collaboration amongst these Schools, and the support of the University of Cincinnati Bicentennial Committee, bus shelters for city students in selected neighborhoods around the city can be planned, designed, built, and installed. This report explains the activities that took place during the Summer 2017 School of Planning Studio (PLAN 2012).
