Mount Maunganui, New Zealand

Roy Stuart built his first wooden surfboard, an alaia, in 1969. He is the inventor of the avant garde parallel profile wooden surfboard system, and since 1995 has been a major innovator and contributor in the modern wooden surfboard renaissance.
